Newcastle player ratings v Leeds: Defender is 4/10

By Matt Farr

Football Insider rates the Newcastle players during their 1-1 draw Leeds in the Championship on Friday night.

Karl Darlow 6 – Superb reaction save to deny Roofe early on. Had a quiet game from then on.

Paul Dummett 6 – Pushed forward on the left-hand side, but not the most threatening attacking presence.

Vurnon Anita 4 – Gifted Pedraza too much space on the left. The defender was given a torrid time by the Leeds winger. Had a better game when Pedraza was withdrawn.

Jamaal Lascelles 6 – The unlikely man to break the deadlock for Newcastle with a header. Not too much work to do defensively.

Chancel Mbemba 6 – Looked more comfortable on the ball than against Sheff Wed. Looks a handy defensive option, but will struggle to keep out Ciaran Clark when he returns.

Isaac Hayden 7 – Kept the battle against Wood away from the back-four. Had the desire to get to every ball first, and make driving runs forward. An encouraging return to action.

Jonjo Shelvey 6 – Dictated the game right from the outset. Showed off his passing range with aplomb, bar one over-cooked free-kick.

Yoan Gouffran 5  – Struck the post with a thunderous drive. Had few other opportunities to make his mark in what was a quiet day.

Ayoze Perez 5 – Very ineffective. No real influence in the final third.

Matt Ritchie 7 – Ever-present quality in his delivery, but team-mates unable to convert. Mostly great defending, however. By far the biggest threat for Newcastle.

Aleksandar Mitrovic 7 – Dominant in the air. Locked in a fierce battle with Jansson throughout, and certainly made his physical presence felt. No goal, but a pleasing display.

Jack Colback (for Hayden 79)

DeAndre Yedlin (for Ritchie 84)

Mo Diame (for Perez 90)
