Newcastle plot swoop for international hitman from Premier League rivals - report
By Aramide Oladipo
Newcastle United are plotting a move to re-sign West Ham United striker Andy Carroll this summer, according to a report.
The Sun claims that the Hammers are open to offloading the 28-year-old in the transfer window due to his lack of fitness.
The newspaper reports that Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is weighing up a deal that would see the Geordie striker return to St James’ Park this season.
The report claims that West Ham attempted to sell Carroll to China during the January transfer window but a deal failed to materialise and he stayed in East London.
The Hammers signed Carroll from Newcastle for £15million four years ago but the striker has struggled with a number of injuries throughout this period.

The striker only managed to make 18 appearances in the Premier League last season but he still contributed with seven goals and one assists.
The Englishman started his footballing career at the Tyneside club and he became a local hero when he managed to break into the first-team in 2008.
During his five-year tenure at the club, Carroll scored 33 goals in 90 appearances for the Magpies.
Carroll currently has two years remaining on his contract at the London Stadium.

This is surely a deal that the Newcastle supporters have been waiting for all summer long. There is no doubt that Carroll would receive a hero’s welcome should the Magpies manage to secure his signature before the end of the transfer window. The striker has bags of Premier League experience and he would be able to provide Newcastle with an additional attacking option alongside Joselu, Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez. However, Carroll’s inability to stay fully fit throughout the course of a single campaign makes this a very risky move for Newcastle. With his recent injury history, it might be a wise move for Benitez to weigh up other potential striking options before going all out to re-sign Carroll this summer.
