Newcastle predicted 4-4-1-1 v Hull: Benitez to make six changes

COMMENT By Harvey Byrne

Newcastle could make six changes for their EFL Cup tie against Hull on Tuesday evening.

The Magpies will travel to the KCOM Stadium following a surprise 1-0 defeat against Blackburn at the weekend.

Karl Darlow, Ciaran Clark, Jesus Gamez, Isaac Hayden, Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic all started against Rovers, but they could drop out of the line-up to face the Tigers.

This is likely to result in Matz Sels, Grant Hanley, Paul Dummett, Jack Colback, Mohamed Diame and Dwight Gayle coming into the starting eleven.

Striker Gayle has been in fine form this season with 13 goals in 15 appearances following his summer move from Premier League side Crystal Palace.

He will likely be supported by attacking midfielder Diame, who joined from Hull in the summer.

Attackers Matt Ritchie and Christian Atsu will be expected to provide the width on either flank with their pace and trickery causing problems to defences.

Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has been one of the key players for Newcastle this season with his ability on the ball.

He will likely be in the middle alongside Colback, who brings great energy to the Magpies’ team.

The defence will be expected to see the one change with Hanley coming in.

The centre-back has featured just eight times this season after joining in the summer for £6million and he will be keen to impress alongside Chancel Mbemba.

Goalkeeper Sels will also be looking to put in a good display after losing his place to Darlow earlier in the campaign after a rocky start for his new side.

A place in the semi-finals awaits the winners of the clash and Newcastle will be eager to earn a day out at Wembley alongside some possible silverware following some tough years for the club.
