Newcastle ready to accept Sean Longstaff offer – sources

Newcastle United are willing to listen to offers for Sean Longstaff this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The club want £20million for the midfielder’s services in a transfer that would represent pure profit under PSR. However, any deal for him is unlikely before 30th June, when the annual accounts are cut off.

The 26-year-old is currently under contract until summer 2025, meaning he would be available on a free transfer next year if he didn’t sign a contract extension. Therefore, this window is seen by Newcastle as an opportune time to make a profit from him.

In May, Football Insider revealed that the academy graduate sees his long-term future at St. James’ Park.

But with the chance to earn money that could be re-invested into Eddie Howe’s squad, the Magpies are open to the idea of selling him.

Newcastle United could sell Sean Longstaff and sign big name

Despite Newcastle’s stance on Longstaff’s future, the midfielder was a crucial part of the squad last season. The midfielder made 46 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight times.

He made his senior debut for his boyhood club in December 2018, and since that time Longstaff has gone on to play 172 times.

But injecting further quality is essential with the Magpies falling short of securing Champions League football for next season.

Football Insider revealed that the club is in advanced talks to sign England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as an example of their proactiveness in the window.

Longstaff might not be the only fan favourite to depart Tyneside this summer though as Newcastle are also planning to sell Callum Wilson.

The 32-year-old would attract a fee in excess of £15million, but his sale will remain dependent on whether Calvert-Lewin’s signature is secured.
