Report: Newcastle field £4.5m Premier League bid for homegrown ace, club make response
By Will Butcher
Newcastle have rejected a £4.5million bid from Crystal Palace for left-back Paul Dummett, according to a report.
The Evening Chronicle claim that the Toon rejected a bid from Palace in the last 48 hours despite confirming the signing of Serie A left-back Achraf Lazaar from Palermo.
Dummett has also attracted interest from West Brom this summer but it is said that Newcastle, who have just completed a full-back recruitment drive after signing Lazaar, Ciaran Clark and DeAndre Yedlin, wanted to keep competition healthy.
Palace and former Magpies manager Alan Pardew is looking to strengthen the left-back position, despite having Papa Souare and Zeki Fryers on the books at Selhurst Park.
It remains to be seen who Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez sees as first-choice left-back at St. James’ Park, with the former Real Madrid boss being able to choose from Lazaar, Dummett and even the versatile Clark for the position.

Dummett, 24, made 24 appearances in all competitions last term for the Magpies, but couldn’t help the side being relegated to the Championship for the second time in the last decade.
Former Liverpool boss Benitez is under no pressure to sell the Newcastle-born defender, with two years still remaining on his St. James’ Park contract.
The Magpies have sold 16 players this summer after Benitez allowed the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Andros Townsend and Daryl Janmaat to leave following their relegation.
In other Newcastle transfer news, the Toon have been offered a player-plus-cash deal for their Euro 2016 star.
