Newcastle midfielder reveals the match he wants to avoid

By Emma Sanders

On loan Newcastle midfielder Sammy Ameobi has revealed he hopes Bolton do not draw his parent club in the third round of the FA Cup competition.

The 24-year-old would not be able to face Newcastle as FA rules state an on-loan player cannot play against their parent club and he is eager to take part in the next round.

Ameobi scored a sensational goal in Bolton’s 3-2 victory against Sheffield United in the second round and he wants to continue his impressive cup form.

The winger admitted it would be “perfect” if Bolton drew Sunderland in the third round and he is hoping for a home fixture to give his side the best chance of progressing.

“Anyone but Newcastle, please. I’d take Sunderland. They’d be perfect. I’d take that,” Ameobi told Bolton News.

“I’d like to get a home fixture for the fans. Bolton have done so well in the FA Cup in the past it would be great to go on another run. Whoever we get won’t fancy playing us.”

Ameobi was outcasted by Rafa Benitez when he first joined the club and he was told to train with the under-23s this season before being sent out on loan to the League One side.

His loan agreement is due to run out in January but Ameobi is unlikely to return to Newcastle in the new year and is expected to extend his spell with Bolton.

He will be eager to show Benitez why he still has enough talent to play for Newcastle and an extended run in the FA Cup could help him do that.

In other Newcastle news, the club are bracing themselves for a bid for this striker.
