Newcastle striker Emmanuel Riviere is on the verge of securing a move to Osmanlispor, according to a report.
Football news website Futbol Arena claim that the Turkish side have secured a deal with the Magpies for the 27-year-old and that the transfer will be confirmed shortly.
The French forward has been a huge flop at St James’ Park since his arrival from Monaco back in 2014, and ended up spending last season on loan at Spanish side Osasuna.
However he struggled to impress at the La Liga club, as he failed to find the net despite 17 outings across all competitions.
He managed just three goals in 31 appearances for Newcastle, and the Magpies will be happy to offload him this summer with just a year left on his contract.
Football Insider verdict
Riviere’s departure will be greeted with a mix of delight and relief by the Toon Army, as the club manage to offload one of their worst signings in recent years. He never looked comfortable on the football pitch, bumbling around up front and offering very little threat to the opposition. He has failed to find the net since a goal against Queens Park Rangers back in May 2015, and it is a miracle that the Magpies have managed to find anyone willing to spend money on the French forward. His departure will clear up the wage bill and whatever transfer fee Newcastle do receive can be reinvested. A good move all round.
In other Newcastle transfer news, the Magpies are said to be on the verge of snapping up a midfielder from a Champions League side.
