Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez, 58, has been labelled “a great fit” for the upcoming summer appointment of the next Arsenal manager.

With Arsene Wenger due to leave the club in the next few weeks, the rumour mill has spun into overdrive as to who will be taking up the position.

After Brendan Rodgers ruled himself out of the running and Carlo Ancelotti now looking as though he will become the Italian national coach, manager availability is diminishing.

But ex-Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour reckons that Benitez would be a great choice for the Gunners.

Speaking on talkSPORT and as quoted by the media outlet, the pundit said: “What he has done for Newcastle this season is amazing.

“With not a lot of investment he’s got them playing so well. They are out of trouble when it looked like they would be in a relegation battle, and now they are sitting really healthy in the league.

“He would be a great fit, but whether Arsenal want to go down that road…”

Football Insider verdict:

Parlour couldn’t be more right about Benitez who has guided his side to safety on a shoestring budget – he would be perfect for the Gunners. Arsenal have lacked cohesion and organisation defensively for years and with the Spaniard – known for his attention to detail particularly at the back – he could get them back on track. However, the Newcastle faithful would have something to say about this. The 58-year-old is adored by the Magpies fans who would be desperate to keep hold of the Champions League winner – it’s an adoration he’s unlikely to receive at the Emirates.
