Newcastle sources: Marc Guehi update today after another bid accepted

Newcastle have had their hopes of signing Marc Guehi hit after Fulham had a bid accepted for Joachim Andersen, sources have told Football Insider.

A compromise on the fee – around £30m including add-ons – has been reached for the 28-year-old Denmark international.

Sources close to Newcastle say that Crystal Palace have been privately adamant that only one of Anderson and Guehi, 24, their two senior centre-backs, would leave in the final days of the summer window.

That resolve is now set to be tested as Newcastle weigh up an improved offer for Guehi.

Newcastle have had four bids for the England international of up to £65m rejected by Palace, with Eddie Howe’s side yet to meet Palace’s valuation.

Football Insider revealed (August 17) that Newcastle have been told they will have to pay £70million-plus to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Newcastle could miss out on Marc Guehi

Guehi captained Crystal Palace in their 2-1 opening-day defeat to fellow London side Brentford and was booked just before half-time.

The centre-back has been a mainstay for Palace since making the £18.5 million move from Chelsea back in 2021 having made 112 appearances and scoring five goals for the club.

Newcastle have been in the market for a new centre-back all transfer window with Sven Botman yet to return from a devastating ACL injury back in March.

Now with Fabian Schar suspended following his incident with Ben Brereton-Diaz in their 1-0 win over Southampton, Newcastle are running out of options at the back.

In other news, Newcastle United target Dominic Calvert-Lewin could still leave Everton before the transfer window closes.
