Newcastle sources: Significant Kieran Trippier update today
Kieran Trippier now looks set to stay at Newcastle United after Istanbul Basaksehir, Fenerbahce, Besiktas, and Eyupspor pulled the plug on their interest in a deal this week.
Sources have told Football Insider the four Turkish clubs have given up on the chance to sign the 33-year-old with Eddie Howe keen on keeping him at St James’ Park.
The Newcastle manager seems to have won out for now, but Trippier’s long-term future at St Hames’ Park is up in the air.
He is yet to start a Premier League game following a busy summer with England at Euro 2024 and has subsequently retired from international football.
Kieran Trippier set for Newcastle stay after Turkish interest
Trippier was the first signing of Newcastle’s new Saudi-backed era, joining from Atletico Madrid back in January 2022.
The defender has seemingly fallen down the pecking order at his club this season, however, playing just 32 minutes of Premier League football with Howe preferring Tino Livramento ahead of him.

Capable of filling in at left-back when needed, Trippier featured heavily for England during Euro 2024, filling in for the injured Luke Shaw.
Tripper signed a contract extension with Newcastle back in 2023 but it’s set to expire at the end of this season and the club could lose him for free.
