Newcastle star Sven Botman responds to Jonathan David transfer announcement

Newcastle defender Sven Botman has responded to a message from Jonathan David on social media ahead of a summer transfer.

With the Magpies looking set to qualify for next season’s Champions League, Eddie Howe’s squad looks set for a major overhaul this summer.

Alexander Isak has been linked with a move to Liverpool, while Callum Wilson looks set to end his five-year spell at Newcastle following the expiration of his contract.

Should both strikers leave, the number nine position would become the absolute priority for the Magpies this summer.

Mick Brown told Football Insider exclusively in March that Newcastle were lining up an offer for David, with the Canadian striker out of contract at Lille in the summer.

And following an announcement on social media, the Magpies may be primed to secure one of their targets this summer.

Jonathan David confirms Lille exit ahead of summer transfer

David shared a video on Instagram confirming that this season would be his last at Lille, sharing a montage of his best moments with the French side.

Botman, who spent two years playing alongside the Canadian striker in France, responded by saying “Player” with a love-heart emoji, showing support for his potential future teammate.

Football Insider Verdict

David will likely be one of Europe’s most sought after, and most fought over free agents this summer.

The 25-year-old has proven himself to be a consistent goal-getter in France, scoring 109 goals in 231 games during his time at Lille.

Whilst Newcastle harbours an interest, West Ham are also understood to be keen on David this summer.
