‘Newcastle stars could push to leave if they sell Alexander Isak tomorrow’

Newcastle United could lose some of their star players if they cannot make new signings without cashing in on other players.

This is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the cycle of selling to buy could halt their progress on the pitch.

He went on to explain that being forced to sell big names such as Alexander Isak would force a number of the other key players to consider moves away.

Football Insider recealed in October that Isak could push for a move away from St James’ Park in next summer’s transfer window amid concerns about a lack of progress.

Interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, while Man City continue to watch Bruno Guimaraes, could tempt both players to leave in search of stability.

Newcastle are reluctant to let their best players leave the club, but profit and sustainability rules remain a concern and they may need to sell to balance the books.

This has cast doubt over the futures of a number of key stars, and Brown insists any big-name exits, alongside a lack of ability to spend, could push players away.

Newcastle United stars could push to leave after new twist

Some of the Premier League and Europe’s elite clubs have been keeping a close eye on the Magpies’ situation and could be tempted to swoop in the coming transfer windows.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained that the club will have to show they can remain strong and make progress on the pitch.

It’s a big problem which comes from the situation they are in money-wise,” he told Football Insider.

“Can they go out and buy players to supplement what they’ve already got, or will they always have to sell players to raise money and reinvest?

“If that’s the case, I’d expect some of their key players to say ‘I’m not staying here if we can’t progress from where we are now’.

“They could push for a move away, and then it’s a snowball effect really.

“You sell players because you need the money to buy new players, but the ones you’ve already got will start questioning their position and why some are having to be sold.

“Let’s say they sell Isak tomorrow because they want to raise money. What is Bruno going to think of that? Or Gordon? Or Joelinton?

“So the problem is, if the squad can’t add to the talent they’ve already got without losing key players, why would the others want to stick around?

“Especially if they can go somewhere like an Arsenal or Man City who are going to keep improving and aren’t losing their best players.”
