Newcastle still have ‘hangover’ from Amanda Staveley and Alexander Isak promises
Newcastle United can only have a successful summer transfer window with stability at the club, according to Keith Wyness.
The former Everton chief executive, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, believes that sacking Howe and making changes behind-the-scenes won’t do Newcastle any good.
Howe’s position as manager is under increasing scrutiny due to on-field results this season, with the Magpies in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
Their season looks to have stemmed from poor recruitment last summer, with Howe’s side having particularly struggled up front this campaign.
Newcastle will be busy this summer to try and rectify their mistakes, but no European football next season on Tyneside makes the departures of key players a possibility.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes last summer was a “mess” at Newcastle.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the club must “plan a much better summer transfer window” in order to be successful.
| Player | Signed From | Transfer Fee |
| Anthony Elanga | Nottingham Forest | £55m |
| Malick Thiaw | AC Milan | £34m |
| Jacob Ramsey | Aston Villa | £43m |
| Nick Woltemade | Stuttgart | £69m |
| Yoane Wissa | Brentford | £55m |
| Aaron Ramsdale | Southampton | Season Loan |
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Now, to give Newcastle the benefit of the doubt, for all these promises to us that they’re going to be a world-leading club, at least David Hopkinson is in there now in a position as a stable CEO.
“Ross Wilson has come in as a sporting director, and he’s been there for a while now, and Eddie Howe. It’s important that the ownership maintains stability with those three.
“Let them see what they can do this summer. Plan a much better summer window and let’s see what can happen because the last one was a real mess with sporting directors coming and going, different things and big decisions to handle as well and big fights to handle.
“There was still a hangover from Amanda Staveley and promises made by her and Alexander Isak, if you believe the media.”
And what about Tino Livramento’s future?
Sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle have yet to tie Tino Livramento down to a new contract, and that Arsenal and Manchester City are battling for his signature.
Livramento’s contract does not expire at St James’ Park until 2028, but the full-back is keen to play European football and cement his position in future England squads.
Howe does not want the 23-year-old to depart, and Newcastle would demand a significant transfer fee to allow him to leave this summer.
