Newcastle tipped to make U-turn on signing Dele Alli after source’s update – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Newcastle United could still move to sign Dele Alli from Tottenham in January despite rejecting the chance to pursue a deal.

The former Scotland star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Magpies would not shut the door on any potential arrivals heading into the winter window.

A Newcastle source told Football Insider on Monday (27 December) Eddie Howe has turned down the opportunity to push for Alli, 25.

A Spurs source has told this site the north Londoners are open to a loan or permanent move for the attacking midfielder.

Newcastle are not expected to be among the chasing pack as Howe prioritises other additions.

However, Hutton suggested Newcastle could still launch a surprise move after their initial rejection.

“I would like to think Newcastle are keeping all their options open and not shutting any doors,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“They are in a relegation battle, even though we have seen performances pick up, especially against Manchester United. I thought they did really well.

“There are another couple of injuries that they’re having to deal with. I just don’t think, for any player, they would want to shut the door. Especially one who has the potential that Dele Alli has.

“If you can get the best out of him, he can obviously be a very good player. It’s interesting they’ve just come right off the bat and said: ‘No, we’re not interested,’ unless that’s just a ploy.

“We’ll have to wait and see. I’m pretty sure there’ll be a lot of suitors for Dele Alli if the price is right.”
