Newcastle tipped to sign Liverpool ace Origi in ‘bargain’ deal after Edwards reveal – pundit

Paddy Kenny has told Newcastle to sign Divock Origi as soon as possible after his new asking price was revealed.

The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, tipped the Liverpool attacker to thrive if given regular football.

On Thursday (6 January) Luke Edwards of The Telegraph reported Newcastle’s interest in signing Origi, 26.

It was also claimed the attacker could be available for as little as £7million this month.

As revealed by Football Insider injury expert Ben Dinnery on 30 December, Callum Wilson could be out for at as long as four months if he suffered an Achilles injury during the draw against Man United on 27 December.

Kenny claims Origi can replace Wilson’s goals.

“£7million is an absolute bargain,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s Premier League experienced, a good player, and he knows where the back of the net is.

“If he gets regular football, god knows how good he can be. £7million isn’t even a gamble, is it?

“Especially to Newcastle, it’s basically nothing. Even if he comes in and becomes a squad player like he is at Liverpool, it’s a no brainer.

“It’s important Newcastle get players in early and settled. Hopefully Newcastle can get this one done quickly.

“They need a striker with Callum Wilson injured and Origi fits the bill. I can see that happening.”

Newcastle remain in the relegation zone.

They are next in league action against Watford on 15 January.
