Newcastle tipped to sign 'superstar' in January after Swiss Ramble's £600m reveal - pundit

Newcastle United will look to make “one world-class signing” in the January window.

That is the view of former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Amanda Staveley’s recent comments on recruitment.

As quoted by the Chronicle (26th October), Staveley claimed the winter window is “not the best time” to recruit players.

According to football finance specialist Swiss Ramble, the Magpies could spend £600million on new players this season and still be within Financial Fair Play regulations.

Newcastle could spend the incredible sum within FFP guidelines due to amortisation and Mike Ashley’s parsimonious running of the club.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Staveley’s comments, Robinson said:

“The calibre of player Newcastle can sign in the next two windows will not be the same calibre of those that they sign in the next two or three seasons.

“I think there will be one superstar signing in January though given the amount of money that has come in. The expectation comes with the money.

“The owners will want to make a statement and that means big-name signings. You look back at Manchester City and they signed Robinho. Did it work? Well, that’s debatable.

“The owners have to be savvy and clever on who they sign and who they bring in this window. They have to stay in the Premier League.

“But among those sensible signings I expect there to be one world-class signing.”

In other news, a pundit has claimed Newcastle could seal a ‘great signing’ amid swoop for the next Shearer.
