Newcastle to accelerate Elliot Anderson plan after ‘huge’ reveal

Newcastle are looking to bring Elliot Anderson back to St James’ Park after an incredible upwards trajectory in his career.

Despite sources telling Football Insider that a move by Newcastle to sign Anderson is proving very difficult, Howe looks determined to bring him back home.

Former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Newcastle are keen to re-sign Anderson from Nottingham Forest as he continues to impress at the City Ground.

An England international, the 22-year-old is well on his way to becoming one of the country’s finest players.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Magpies are regretting their decision to let the number eight leave in the summer of 2024.

Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Man United are considering signing Anderson, adding to the growing number of clubs in the hunt for the midfielder.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast over Newcastle’s dream pursuit of the Englishman, I explained: “I’m sure if an opportunity arose where Elliot Anderson could potentially leave Nottingham Forest, I think there’s no doubts that Newcastle would be in that equation to try and sign him.

“I think there’ll be a lot of clubs who would be trying to sign Elliot Anderson as well, the likes of Manchester United have been linked with the England international.

“I’m sure a lot of those big six clubs will be looking at Anderson if they were looking to bolster their midfield options, because for me, he’s developing himself into one of the best young midfielders in Europe right now.

“Newcastle didn’t want to sell Anderson in the first place last summer, but they had to reluctantly sacrifice him due to PSR and FFP, and that’s why he ended up going to Nottingham Forest as part of that deal.

“We’ve seen Eddie Howe’s comments about the midfielder as well. He’s a huge fan of him and I think if there was even a slightest possibility that he could be signed back by Newcastle, I’m sure it’s something they would definitely look at.”

Manuel Locatelli rebuke highlights Newcastle’s heavy interest in Anderson

Sources told Football Insider that Manuel Locatelli would turn down any approaches from Newcastle in the upcoming transfer windows.

The Juventus terrier would face heavy competition from Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali which would seem him certainly get reduced minutes.

The Italy international’s firm stance of staying in his home country highlights the Toon’s desire to bring Anderson back to St James’ Park in a bid to bolster their midfield.

One injury to the elite midfield trio could completely destroy their fine start to the season with Lewis Miley still not completely ready to assume a regular first-team role.
