Newcastle to accept ‘£30m’ Harvey Barnes offer – Transfer guru
Newcastle United are set to entertain offers for Harvey Barnes in the January transfer window amid interest from rival Premier League sides.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that a number of clubs are interested in making a move for his signature.
This comes after Football Insider first revealed in October that the Magpies plan to sell Barnes in a shock move to raise funds for reinvestment in Eddie Howe’s squad.
Clubs have now been alerted to the 27-year-old’s availability ahead of the January transfer window.
However, Brown went on to explain that interested clubs will not be willing to match the £39million fee the Magpies paid in 2023 and would be more likely to cap their interest at £30million.
The winger has impressed during his time on the pitch this season, but has struggled to nail down a starting place due to Anthony Gordon’s form on the left-hand side.
As a result, only six of his 15 Premier League appearances so far this season have come from the start and he is viewed as an asset from which they can raise funds.
Newcastle plan to cash in on Harvey Barnes after £30m twist
Newcastle have struggled financially in recent windows, and are expected to have to sell before they can buy in January, with Barnes’ sale becoming key to their plans.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the Magpies will have to assess whether the price clubs are willing to pay will be enough for them to sell.
“He’s very highly regarded by a lot of clubs,” he told Football Insider.
“But there are question marks about why he’s struggled to make a real impact at Newcastle.
“I know there are a number of Premier League sides who are interested in signing him.
“But how much did they sign him for? £40million? They won’t get that sort of money back in January.
“I don’t think he’ll move to a bigger club than Newcastle, and the clubs below them won’t be willing to spend that sort of money on one player.
“If there is a deal for him to leave permanently, I’d expect £30million might be the most they can get.
“That sort of money might be more realistic for interested clubs.

“We know Newcastle want to raise money and they might have to do that by selling players, because they want to invest the money back into their squad.
“That’s the reason they’re listening to offers for him. It depends on whether the price clubs are willing to pay will be enough to tempt them to sell.”
