Newcastle to agree Antoine Semenyo deal on one condition – Transfer expert
Newcastle United have been backed to agree a deal to sign Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo in January, but only at a price that suits them.
This is according to recruitment expert Mick Brown, who has maintained strong connections in the game after spells at Man United, West Ham, Sunderland and more, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Newcastle are among the clubs plotting a swoop for the Ghanaian.
This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 12 October that the Magpies were targeting the 24-year-old to fill their problematic right-wing role.
Semenyo is one of a number of right-sided forwards being followed by Newcastle ahead of the January transfer window, with the position a priority for Eddie Howe.
However, the club remain wary of their spending given their close call with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules in the summer which forced them into selling two young talents.
As a result, a deal for the Bournemouth forward or any other player will have to come at a price that works for the club – and they will not be made to overpay.
Brown explained that he expects a deal for Semenyo to be on the cards if the price is right, but they could face competition from Premier League rivals also interested in his signature.
Newcastle United plot swoop for Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo
Semenyo made the move to Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023 and has since made 55 appearances for the Cherries, scoring 12 goals, and has started every league game so far this season.
Brown recalled watching a 19-year-old Semenyo during his loan spell at Newport County in 2018-19, and stated that he has taken a step up in his game since then, leading to clubs keeping a close eye on his progress.
“I watched Semenyo while he was on loan at Newport,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s strong, purposeful, great on the ball and willing to run at his man.
“But he was one of those players where he would come explosively into the game and then gradually drop off and become less effective.
“He’s always shown plenty of promise but never quite seemed to fulfil it.
“Since he moved to Bournemouth, though, the lad has got better and I’ve been impressed by what I’ve seen from him.
“I’m not the only one, either, because I’ve heard Newcastle are one of the clubs keeping a close eye on him.
“They want to do a deal for a new right-winger – but it will depend on the price.

“Of course, they want to improve certain areas of their team, but if they’re not going to be able to spend big they’ll have to be selective.
“They’re fearful of repercussions if they breach PSR like they came close to doing in the summer.
“But if the price is right for them, I’d expect them to explore this deal.”
