Newcastle to complete Carlos signing ‘soon’ after claim ‘personal terms agreed’ – pundit
Newcastle United will sign defender Diego Carlos this month despite failing to agree a fee with Sevilla.
That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ need for defensive recruits.
On 6 January, The Athletic reported Newcastle had an opening bid for Carlos, 28, turned down by Sevilla.

However, Fabrizio Romano claimed today (19 January) that Newcastle have agreed personal terms with the defender even though no bid has been accepted.
This came after Carlos handed in a transfer request on Tuesday night, as per Sky Sports.
McAvennie is convinced the deal will get down before the end of the month.
“That will get done soon, of course it will,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Sevilla are just trying to get as much money out of Newcastle as they can.
“They are entitled to do that but Newcastle won’t want to pay over the odds.
“They might have to now. That side looks like it is going to get relegated. For the player to want to come is half the battle.
“If he kicks up a fuss at the club and wants to come to Newcastle then he will go.
“Sevilla can’t do much at that point.”

Newcastle have the second-worst defensive record in the league this season and after a draw against Watford on Saturday (15 January) the club are staring relegation in the face.
Eddie Howe’s side have signed Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood this month but their arrivals have so far failed to inspire a turnaround in the Magpies’ woeful form.
