Newcastle United are expected to submit an improved bid for James Trafford after their opening offer of £15million was rejected by Burnley, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider first revealed on 27 May Newcastle’s interest in signing the 21-year-old as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his goalkeeping options.
Sources say Burnley are holding out for a £20million-plus fee for the goalkeeper after turning down the north-east giants’ opening bid.
Trafford has drawn the attention of several top sides following the Lancashire outfit’s relegation to the Championship, with Liverpool joining overseas clubs in the race to sign him.
Football Insider revealed on 3 June Bayern Munich are rivalling Newcastle and Liverpool to land a deal for the shot-stopper.
The England U-21 international is under contract until 2027 after making the £19million move from Manchester City last summer.

Trafford had a mixed first campaign with Burnley after being dropped for the final 10 games of the season, having kept just two clean sheets in 28 Premier League appearances.
That hasn’t stopped top-flight clubs from registering their interest in the goalkeeper as an exit from Turf Moor could be on the cards over the coming weeks.
The Cumbria-born stopper won’t be heading to the European Championships this summer after he was one of the seven players Gareth Southgate sent home when naming his 26-man squad for the upcoming tournament.
