Newcastle told to appeal Fabian Schar’s red card v Southampton – fans react

Newcastle United supporters are urging the club to try to appeal Fabian Schar’s red card from their Premier League opening day game against Southampton.

The central defender was sent off after pushing his forehead into Ben Brereton Diaz’s face following an altercation between the two men.

Replays highlighted that the contact between them was extremely light, and some fans feel that Diaz’s theatrics led to a harsh decision.

The Magpies ultimately went on to win the game 1-0 despite having 10 men, but fans are concerned about the three-match ban Schar now faces.

Newcastle are already light in this area of the pitch due to Sven Botman and Jamal Lascelles being injured, which is why Eddie Howe has been working hard to try and sign a centre-back this summer.

Football Insider revealed the club have been told it will cost £70million to secure their first-choice target Marc Guehi.

Even though the contact from Schar is undeniable, some fans and pundits have argued that there wasn’t enough force to warrant the punishment the 32-year-old received.

Newcastle fans are now hoping that the club will attempt to appeal the decision in a bid to ensure the decision is reversed.
