Newcastle told to complete ‘brilliant’ Trippier signing after what he’s told friends
Paddy Kenny has backed Newcastle to pull off the “statement” signing of Kieran Trippier.
The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the Atletico Madrid defender is just what the Magpies need.
On Wednesday (15 December) Football Insider revealed Newcastle are growing increasingly confident of signing Trippier, 31, next month.

A recruitment source has told this site that talks are underway with Atletico Madrid over a deal for Trippier even though he is out until January with a shoulder injury.
He has told friends he is keen to get the deal done early in the January window.
Kenny insists Trippier would be a “brilliant” signing.
“What a statement,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“That tells you exactly what kind of player they are looking to bring in.
“He’s an England international and has played at the top level for years.
“Those are the kinds of players Newcastle need to sign if they are to stay in the Premier League.
“It won’t be easy to get more players of Trippier’s quality. The place isn’t very attractive at the moment.
“One win all season, in the relegation zone, other than money there is not a huge reason to go there.
“In any case, Trippier would be an amazing signing. Defenders are exactly what they need.
“Hopefully they can get him in early doors so he can start to help straight away.”

Trippier is close to automatically renewing his contract at Atletico by a further 12 months until 2023.
His current agreement runs until the end of this season but an extension is triggered if he starts 20 matches.
In other news, Newcastle United could sign two ‘superstars’ in January amid ‘£100m’ claim.
