Newcastle told to complete signing of ‘phenomenal’ Alli after Tottenham update today

Frank McAvennie has urged Newcastle to sign Dele Alli on loan from Tottenham in January.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the player can be “phenomenal” on his day.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider the club are willing to let Alli, 25, leave during the January window as he does not feature in manager Antonio Conte’s plans.

Spurs would consider, loan, loan-to-buy or permanent transfer options.

Newly-rich Newcastle will be looking for new recruits to aid their ongoing relegation fight this January.

McAvennie has one concern regarding Alli’s commitment but still claims Newcastle should make a move next month.

“He’s a good player, there’s no doubting that,” The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider,

“Going to Newcastle? What an asset he would be to them if he got his form back.

“If he plays as well as we know he can, he is the man to save them.

“What concerns me is whether you want him in the trenches with you.

“Is he going to put his foot in and do the dirty work in a relegation fight?

“I’m not saying he won’t or can’t. We have just never seen it before.

“If the option is there for Newcastle and they have already secured the new defenders they need.

“I think they could do a lot worse than getting Alli in, even on loan.

“He can be phenomenal on his day.”

Newcastle remain firmly in a relegation fight.

Their first win of the season on 4 December was followed by a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Leicester on Sunday (11 December).
