Newcastle told to hand big payout to Wimbledon as new footage drops – fans react
Newcastle United fans have called for the club to give AFC Wimbledon some of the gate money from their rearranged EFL Cup third-round tie.
The two clubs were scheduled to face each other at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Tuesday (24 September), but the game had to be postponed after severe flooding has caused pitch damage.
Footage has been shown of Wimbledon’s pitch and the surrounding area, showcasing the devastation that the recent rainfall has caused.
For the fixture to be played in a timely manner it has now been rearranged to take place at St. James’ Park on 1 October.
Newcastle fans are able to get refunds for their original tickets, and the change now means that the Premier League side will boast a home advantage in this fixture.
The Magpies reached the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup last season where they were eventually knocked out by Chelsea.
Newcastle fans want the club to financially help Wimbledon
Wimbledon not hosting the game will have a financial impact on the League Two club, and Newcastle fans believe their owners should help out.
The Wombles will be having to find funds to fix their stadium for the remainder of the season, and Newcastle supporters are keen for the club to aid them with that.
