Newcastle told to seal appointment of 'brilliant football brain' after Wilcox update - Robinson

Paul Robison is adamant Newcastle United should appoint Jason Wilcox as their new director of football.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League goalkeeper said his former Leeds teammate, Wilcox, would be “a great appointment” because of his “brilliant football brain”.

According to The Telegraph‘s Sam Wallace (October 7th), Manchester City academy director Jason Wilcox is being considered for a sporting director role at St. James’ Park.

As revealed by Football Insider (October 8th), the new owners plan to shake up Newcastle’s recruitment set up.

Robinson revealed Wilcox has “great contacts” within football.

“He would be a great appointment,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“I know him well from playing with him at Leeds. I know the type of character he is and he has a brilliant football brain. He handles himself so well off the field.

“You only have to look at the job he has done at Manchester City. He has done an incredible job.

“I think he would take it in his stride if he stepped up to being a director of football. He has great contacts in the game and is a level-headed guy. You could trust him to do a big overhaul there. It’s going to be a big rebuilding project.

“One of the first things Newcastle’s new owners want to do is develop the academy. Who better to oversee that then Man City’s academy director?”
