Newcastle told to 'throw money' at Tarkowski as club make major transfer decision - pundit
Newcastle should “throw money” at James Tarkowski in a bid to prise him away from Burnley.
That’s according to former Leeds stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who claims Tarkowski would become the Magpies’ best defender if he joins.
As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (30 November), Burnley are doubling down on blocking Tarkowski leaving next month, despite his contract expiring at the end of the season.
As detailed by this site last month (12 November), the centre-back would jump at the chance to join West Ham.
However, Kenny claims Newcastle should “throw money” at Burnley and Tarkowski in their bid to sign the player.
“He would instantly improve Newcastle,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Burnley aren’t having a great season but we all know how good Tarkowski is.
“If Burnley want to keep him, that’s understandable. Tarkowski is one of those players who can decide relegation.
“If he leaves. Burnley are considerably weaker. So they won’t want to lose him to a relegation rival.
“Newcastle should just throw money at him. Whatever he wants, pay it.
“Not to say Tarkowski is purely motivated by money, but obviously that’s a factor.
“Newcastle is such a massive club and a big step up from Burnley. It would be an exciting move.”
Tarkowski played the full 90 minutes as his side were beaten by Newcastle on Saturday (4 December).
This was Newcastle’s first win of the season in any competition.
