Newcastle told Tottenham’s updated Richarlison asking price – ‘he’s affordable’
Newcastle United could make a late move to sign Tottenham striker Richarlison before the January transfer window closes.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes a bid would need to be “somewhere near that £50million mark” for Spurs to consider selling the Brazil international.
The striker is fed up being a second-string striker under Ange Postecoglou, and that’s where the Magpies could step up to provide an option for the experienced Premier League star.
Richarlison has scored 62 goals and provided 25 assists in 236 Premier League appearances throughout his career, allowing him to be at the stage where he can slot into any first team.
Newcastle could bring in Richarlison before the window closes
“We spoke before about the Tottenham squad being imbalanced and they’re heavily weighted in the forward areas,” Robinson told Football Insider.
“He’s a player that opposition teams love to hate and he’s a really good player to have in your dressing room.
“Would I be sad to see him go? Yeah, I would because I think they, listen if it was a choice between him and Timo Werner, for me Werner goes.
“Daniel Levy as we know, he drives a hard bargain, paid 50 million for him, they’re not going get anything near that now, so I don’t think Tottenham are in a situation where they have to sell, they don’t have to speculate to accumulate.
“It would have to be somewhere near that 50 million mark we know that Newcastle can afford it, but because of the rules.
“The rules are ridiculous for the clubs that are trying to grow they can afford Richarlison, they can afford 10 Richarlison’s, they can afford 20 Richarlison’s but actually under these rules, they’re not allowed to do it.

“They probably wouldn’t overplay them they would like him in the squad, but they won’t overpay for a player.
“They won’t be able to ransom by Tottenham and Tottenham won’t let him go without getting somewhere near the 50, which they won’t get.”
