‘Newcastle transfer update after major Jarell Quansah news at Liverpool’

Liverpool have made a decision on Jarell Quansah’s future amid interest from Newcastle in the centre-back.

Liverpool are set to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid this summer on a free transfer, after the right-back reportedly agreed to personal terms with the 15-time winners of the Champions League.

With uncertainty also continuing to surround the future of soon-to-be out-of-contract Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Andy Robertson, the Reds could be in line for a serious overhaul of their backline.

Newcastle are looking to improve their backline in the summer and have also been strongly linked with a move for Burnley’s James Trafford.

The Magpies are keen on Quansah, but The Athletic have provided an update on the 22-year-old’s future.

Liverpool plan to keep Jarell Quansah despite Newcastle interest

In spite of the speculation surrounding Quansah’s future, Liverpool reportedly have no plans to sell their academy graduate, who is a big part of Arne Slot’s plans next season.

The England U21 international was the subject of strong interest from Newcastle last summer and whilst they remain keen on the centre-back, the Reds are planning for next season with him on board.

An approach was made last summer and after that was rebuffed, Newcastle turned their attentions towards Joe Gomez.

A deal was reach for Newcastle to sign the former Charlton man for £45million, with Anthony Gordon heading to Anfield for £75million, before the Magpies pulled the plug and pursued other deals to meet the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

In spite of the distraction caused by the heroics of Dan Burn in the Carabao Cup final, centre-back remains an area of need for the Magpies in the summer.

The aforementioned defender will be 33-years-old come the end of the season, whilst Fabian Schar, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles remain unreliable due to their turbulent injury records.

Whilst Quansah would have made a lot of sense for Newcastle, the centre-back now looks set for a more regular role in Liverpool’s back-line.

As a result, the Magpies may look to revive their interest in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, having shown interest in January.

The England international looks set to leave Selhurst Park in the summer, but would likely come at a high price, due to the interest in him from clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool.
