Newcastle United are now just like Man City after ‘really important’ update – pundit
Newcastle United are continuing to make the right decisions off the pitch after another “really important” move.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ latest appointment.
On 28 November, Craig Hope reported that Newcastle have appointed a new academy scout, Paul Midgley, who joins from Manchester City.

It was also reported that more scouting appointments are expected across the club at all levels as the Magpies look to continue their revolution under their Saudi ownership.
McManus has been left impressed with Newcastle’s approach.
“It’s not all about big-money signings,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“You have to have a very, very strong scouting network. You look at the success Man City have had in particular, that’s where they want to be.
“You bring in guys like that as a head of youth recruitment, that is going to be vital for the club going forward.
“They need to bring through their own future first-team stars. You can’t just keep buying players. You have to introduce quality, young players into the squad too.
“Newcastle have some talent in their youth set up and this new guy will help to improve that. They will want the best young players in England to be coming through that academy.
“I think it’s a sign that Newcastle are getting things right off the pitch as well. It’s strengthening, it’s going to be great for the club.
“I think this is a really important move.”

Newcastle sit third in the Premier League after a stunning start to the season.
They return to league action against Leicester on Boxing Day.
