Newcastle United backed to complete Marcus Thuram signing after source's update
Newcastle United will look to bolster their attacking options in January amid an update on Marcus Thuram’s future.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ January plans.
On Tuesday (22 November), sources told Football Insider that Newcastle United are willing to pay £10million to sign Borussia Monchengladbach star Thuram in January.
Thuram, 25, is free to talk to clubs outside Germany from January and could sign a pre-contract with an English club ahead of joining on a free.
The France international is part of the squad for this month’s World Cup after netting 13 goals in 17 appearances for the Bundesliga side this season.
McManus claims Newcastle could bolster their attacking options in January despite only Tottenham, Arsenal and Man City scoring more goals than them in the league this season.

“You look at the options there, Wilson, Almiron, they have been the ones in-form,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“We haven’t seen Isak, Saint-Maximin has been quiet. Jacob Murphy has been playing well if not producing goals and assists.
“It is definitely somewhere Newcastle could look to strengthen in January and sign some real incredible players, we know the money is there to do deals.
“It’s about depth, isn’t it? With Newcastle also looking like they will be in one form of European competition next season, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to start bolstering the squad now, it saves them a job in the summer.
“I said a few weeks ago that they could go for it in January if they are in a strong position, and what an attractive option they are to players who want to come to the Premier League.
“I don’t think we can rule anything out.”
