Newcastle United backed to complete striker signing as three big names could go
Newcastle will target three new signings this summer, although sales will be dealt with first, with a £100million move for Bruno Guimaraes on the cards.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson explained that the club will target a new striker, centre-back and goalkeeper over the summer transfer window.
Injury issues surrounding Callum Wilson, 32, and Alexander Isak, 24, will force the club to look for a new striker, while reinforcements are also needed in other areas.
Robinson insisted that, as Guimaraes, 26, could leave for £100million in the coming months, that deal would raise funds and free up wages to reinvest despite ongoing financial concerns.
Football Insider reported that Newcastle would move to sign a goalkeeper this summer, but despite links with Aaron Ramsdale, he would not be the one to arrive.
Newcastle to complete sales before three new signings arrive
A new defender, new goalkeeper and new striker could all arrive at St James’ Park in the coming months with Eddie Howe desperate to improve his team.
Robinson claimed these positions would take priority after any player sales were completed, although those exits will be the initial focus of the transfer window.
“The biggest thing with Newcastle is, it depends who leaves. That’s what they have to do first,” he told Football Insider.
“Obviously Callum Wilson and Isak, they’re two fantastic strikers if they’re fit for the full season, but neither of them are. That’s an area they’re light in.
“It depends on what’s going to happen with Almiron, Trippier or Bruno Guimaraes.
“If Bruno Guimaraes goes for £100million, that gives the manager money freed up and wages as well.

“There’s a lot of book balancing to go on at Newcastle. They have to be very careful. They have to be wise and clever in the transfer market.
“Centre-back is a position they will look at and goalkeeper is definitely a position they’ll look at.”
In other news, a “huge” bid could be set to arrive for Bruno Guimaraes.
