Newcastle United backed to sign Moussa Diaby after £40m update – pundit
Newcastle United should pay the £40million it will cost to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the reported Magpies’ target.
As per The Telegraph (27 May) Newcastle have made enquiries about signing Diaby, 22, from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
It is claimed the France international is high on Eddie Howe’s wanted list but he will cost at least £40million.
This value reflects his importance to the German side and the fact he is contracted until 2025.
After bagging 13 goals and 12 assists in 32 Bundesliga outings during the 2021-22 season, Kenny insists £40million represents value for money.
“They are looking at these young players, aren’t they?” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It’s a project and they are looking to get it right at the start. They don’t want to sign 30-year-old players who are going to be leaving in two years.
“They want to sign players who will be here for six, seven, eight years maybe. They want to build around youth but of course you need that experience.
“13 goals and 12 assists as a winger, that’s incredible numbers. He’s 22 as well so he has another 10 years in him at that top level.
“£40million would be a good price”.

Newcastle’s wingers struggled for goals during the 2021-22 Premier League season.
Allan Saint-Maximin scored six while Miguel Almiron scored once and Ryan Fraser scored twice.
