Benitez falls foul of Newcastle fans after successive defeats in latest poll
By Russell Edge
Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has seen his popularity fall among fans of the club, according to a recent poll.
The Sun revealed in the latest of their regular series that the Spanish boss suffered the second biggest decline of popularity in the Premier League among his club’s supporters, with only Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho falling further.
Benitez saw his approval rating drop 12 per cent from 97 percent to 85 per cent, following the club’s 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth at St James’ Park on Saturday, courtesy of an extra time winner for the Cherries.
It was the second successive defeat for the Magpies, having slipped to another 1-0 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor the Monday previous, with such results leaving the club in 11th place after 11 games.
However his drop was nowhere near as significant as that suffered by Mourinho, who saw his approval rating plummet from 75 per cent to 43 per cent, following the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.

His lack of popularity comes despite the Red Devils sitting in second place in the league, although their loss to the Blues did see them fall eight points adrift of title and local rivals Manchester City, while Tottenham are now level on points in third.
In other Newcastle United news, the club are looking to reignite a swoop for a former target after failing with a £20million bid.
