Newcastle United could scupper Tottenham plan to sign Morgan Gibbs-White – sources

Newcastle United have renewed their interest in Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White ahead of the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the Magpies are ready to join Tottenham in the race for the 24-year-old’s signature – with Football Insider revealing on 26 March that Spurs are in pole position to land him.

Gibbs-White was a target for Newcastle in January, with sources telling Football Insider earlier this year that the Tyneside club are closely monitoring the Nottingham Forest ace.

It is believed Forest are planning to sell multiple players if they are relegated from the Premier League this season with further financial issues a big concern at the City Ground.

The Midlands outfit sit 17th in the table and are just one point above the drop zone following their two-point deduction for financial breaches.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are expected to have funds to spend once again this summer and manager Eddie Howe is keen for his side to challenge in the market and add attacking reinforcements.

The Magpies could also sell midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who has been linked with European giants like Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, to raise additional funds.

Gibbs-White has impressed in the 2023-24 campaign despite Forest’s lowly league position, notching six goals and seven assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.

He joined the club from Wolves for a reported fee of £42.5million including add-ons in 2022, signing a contract running until June 2027.

Tottenham

Newcastle have mounted a late challenge for European qualification after a tough first half of this season and sit sixth in the table with five games of this season to play.

Tottenham are fifth in the Premier League – which could be enough to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
