Newcastle United could sign long-term replacement for Kieran Trippier after journalist's reveal - pundit

Paul Robinson has claimed Leeds defender Cody Drameh could replace Kieran Tippier at Newcastle United in years to come.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Leeds United goalkeeper does not believe St. James’ Park is the best place for Drameh’s development.

According to Fabrizio Romano (14 November), the 20-year-old is attracting interest from Borussia Dortmund, Lille, Bayer Leverkusen and Newcastle.

Drameh has fallen down the pecking at Elland Road since the arrival of Rasmus Kristensen.

He has made just two senior appearances for Jesse Marsch’s side this season.

His contract at the Yorkshire club runs until the end of June 2024.

When asked by Football Insider if Drameh could be the perfect long-term replacement for Trippier, Robinson said: “The problem is, whoever they bring in is not going to play ahead of Trippier.

“Trippier has been phenomenal in the time he has been there. He has been the catalyst.

“Drameh is a top young player and he could be the next Trippier but is the best place for his development Newcastle?

“Drameh will want to go somewhere where he will play immediately. He will not get that at Newcastle with Trippier there.”

Trippier moved to St. James’ Park from Atletico Madrid in January 2022.

He has starred for Eddie Howe’s side ever since, contributing three goals and four assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.
