‘Newcastle United respond to Man City advances for Tino Livramento’

Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento has been subject to transfer interest from Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s men are vying to prevent North West rivals Liverpool from winning back-to-back Premier League titles.

Amid their efforts to reclaim top spot in the top flight, Manchester City have set their sights on Livramento.

Meanwhile, fellow fullback Kyle Walker left the Etihad Stadium club to join Premier League new boys Burnley.

Newcastle set to hand Livramento lucrative contract amid Manchester City interest

The right-back excelled for Newcastle last season, making 37 Premier League appearances as the Magpies sealed Champions League qualification.

Livramento subsequently went on to help England win the Under-21 European Championship this summer, featuring in every minute of the Young Lions’ triumph over Germany in the final.

Meanwhile, The Times revealed on Monday, 21 July, that Eddie Howe’s men are set to offer the 22-year-old a fresh contract to stave off Man City’s interest in his services.

The report adds that Newcastle are prepared to make the England Under-21 international one of their top earners in a fresh six-year deal.

Howe must retain Livramento

Football Insider verdict

Howe is already enduring a difficult transfer window, having missed out on former transfer targets Bryan Mbeumo, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, and Liverpool-bound Hugo Ekitike.

The North East outfit’s priority remains retaining the services of star striker Alexander Isak, but they must also ensure that Livramento remains at St James’ Park.

Livramento shone at right-back for Howe’s side after beating former England international Kieran Trippier to a regular spot in Newcastle’s starting lineup.

The 22-year-old went on to prove his versatility by effectively deputising for left-back Lewis Hall, when the former Chelsea man suffered a long-term injury.

Livramento effectively repelled the threat of Mohamed Salah when Newcastle beat Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, epitomising his ability to succeed on either side of Howe’s back four.

Newcastle will hope that the former Southampton man puts pen to paper on his fresh contract offer, as he can help them enjoy a strong run in the Champions League.
