‘Worst appointment of all time’ – Newcastle fans react to major off-field announcement
Newcastle United supporters have made their feelings clear following a major off-field departure at St James’ Park.
The Magpies secured Champions League qualification despite their Premier League final day defeat to Everton on Sunday, 25 May.
Newcastle finished an otherwise successful top-flight campaign with back-to-back losses, as they were also beaten by Arsenal on 18 May.
The North East club have enjoyed a historic campaign, as they also won the Carabao Cup with a Wembley victory over Liverpool on 16 March.

Newcastle fans react as sporting director Paul Mitchell departs
The St James’ Park outfit confirmed via X on Tuesday, 27 May, that sporting director Paul Mitchell is departing via a mutual agreement at the end of June.
Mitchell’s departure has been met with mixed responses, as one supporter commented: “Worst appointment of all time”, while another user said: “Can we not pedal him to Man United for £2.7million?”
Newcastle plot Christopher Nkunku swoop
There is no doubt that Newcastle’s summer transfer activity will be affected by Mitchell’s departure, as the North East outfit strive to ready themselves for next season’s Champions League campaign.

Eddie Howe’s men were knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage last time they competed in European football’s most prestigious competition during the 2023/24 campaign, and will be desperate to avoid that fate once again, while the format of the tournament has changed.
But to prepare themselves for a European campaign, the St James’ Park must recruit well this summer despite Mitchell’s imminent departure.
Howe is keen on strengthening his forward line, as Football Insider have exclusively reported that Newcastle are plotting to sign Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea.
The Frenchman has scored just three goals in the Premier League this season, but the attacker has performed well in the Conference League, where he has notched seven goals in 11 appearances.
