Newcastle United will be forced to sell one of their biggest players this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Magpies’ are under major pressure to abide by Financial Fair Play obligations due to heavy spending in recent transfer windows.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Eddie Howe’s side will have to sacrifice one of their “top players” to avoid breaking the Premier League’s rules and to sanction further recruitment.
Newcastle have spent huge fees on key stars since the Saudi Arabian Private Investment Fund bought the club in October 2021.
Newcastle United likely to see ‘top player’ depart this summer
Bruno Guimaraes, one of the Magpies’ biggest stars, was bought for a reported £40million in January 2022 while Alexander Isak was signed for a reported club-record fee of £63million in August 2022.
However, in an effort to balance their books, the club are set to weigh up potential departures.
They were also one of many Premier League sides to not make any new signings in the January transfer window amid growing financial concerns.
While financial pressures remain, Newcastle are still keen to bolster their squad with quality additions next season.
Sources have told Football Insider (13 March) that they are planning to move for a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.
Well-placed sources have also told Football Insider (1 March) that the club intend to sign a new centre-back, a central midfielder and a striker for next season.

Newcastle United were most recently eliminated in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after their 2-0 loss to Man City on Saturday evening (16 March).
They are next in action against West Ham United at St James’ Park in the Premier League on 30 March after the international break.
