Newcastle United: Kieran Trippier open to new contract as Tino Livramento exit links emerge

Kieran Trippier is happy at Newcastle United and would be open to signing a new contract ahead of the summer if he is offered the right terms.

Trippier is nearing the end of his Newcastle contract in June and could make an exit after four-and-a-half years at the club.

He is yet to be offered fresh terms, but is content on Tyneside and could well sign an extension if the new deal is right for him.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Eddie Howe also wants Trippier to stay at Newcastle for at least another season.

Newcastle’s transfer plans are set to centre around signing a new right-back, regardless of his future, as Tino Livramento is continually linked with a move away.

Kieran Trippier would be happy to sign a new Newcastle deal

Trippier has made over 150 appearances for Newcastle since joining the club from Atletico Madrid in January 2022.

He has already played one more game this season than he did in 2024-25, and looks set to be offered a new contract before his current one expires in the summer.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Trippier is such an influential figure, and I think he still has a lot to offer, as I think he’s proven in recent weeks. He’s been one of Newcastle’s better performers.

“A lot will come down to what Newcastle offer Trippier. He’s 35 and turns 36 next September, once the season starts.

“Eddie Howe ideally would like to keep Trippier, and I think he is happy at St James’ Park as well.

“I think if a deal can be offered that appeals to Trippier, whether that’s one year or maybe two years, I think there’s a willingness on all sides to try and get a deal done here.”

Howe also wants Fabian Schar to sign a new contract

Trippier is one of five Magpies players nearing the end of their respective contracts, with Swiss defender Schar another who is set to leave the club this summer if nothing changes.

He has suffered from numerous separate injury struggles this season, but has still made 21 appearances so far, with 11 starts in the Premier League.

At 34-years-old it would be no surprise to see him move on, but Football Insider have revealed that Howe wants Schar to sign a new deal.

It remains to be seen if he signs an extension, as it is currently unclear whether he wishes to stay, or what his demands will be if he wants another contract.
