‘Newcastle slightly worried by Liverpool’s Alexander Isak interest’: ‘It’s possible’

Newcastle United are said to be concerned about Premier League champions Liverpool’s interest in star man Alexander Isak.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign last term, scoring 23 goals in 34 Premier League appearances for the Magpies.

He also played a key role in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph, scoring in their Wembley win over Liverpool on 16 March.

But his exploits have gone far from unnoticed, as Liverpool are interested in Isak’s services as they strive to retain their Premier League title.

Isak Newcastle departure cannot be ruled out amid Liverpool interest

Even though Liverpool cruised to the Premier League title last season, there is no doubt that Isak’s potential arrival would make them more clinical.

Meanwhile, writing in the Daily Mail‘s live Q&A blog, Lewis Steele outlined: “What I was told last week was: if Isak could move to Liverpool, he would. Easier said than done, of course.

“So, is Isak to Liverpool probable? No. But is it possible? Yes.

“It is not one to completely rule out just yet, but there is a strong feeling in the industry that the next month of the window will be more about balancing the books with sales.

“Without them, there is no chance they could afford a mega-money striker.”

Eddie Howe would be devastated to lose Isak

Football Insider verdict

Amid the interest from Liverpool, Newcastle are reluctant to sell Isak, but if the Reds stump up a major fee and break the British transfer record for the second time this summer after already doing so to sign Florian Wirtz, the Magpies may feel as though they have no choice but to part company with the Swede.

Isak is one of the best strikers in the Premier League

A huge Isak sale would have a clear financial benefit for Eddie Howe’s men, but from a footballing point of view, the former Bournemouth boss would be gutted to lose his services.

Having clinched Champions League football ahead of next season, Newcastle must strengthen their squad this summer, whereas selling the former Real Sociedad man would majorly weaken their forward line.

Meanwhile, as alluded to by Steele, the Reds will have to sell some of their current assets to make Isak’s signature a realistic possibility.

Unfortunately for Newcastle, Liverpool are set to sell Darwin Nunez, and letting go of the fellow striker could help them acquire the Sweden international.
