Joelinton “absolutely deserves” a new contract at Newcastle United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa and Rangers defender Alan Hutton hailed the midfielder’s “incredible” form for the Magpies and his influential displays under Eddie Howe.
As revealed by Football Insider (8 March), the club are in advanced talks with the Brazilian regarding a new deal and are confident they will keep him after fears of a summer departure.
He proved crucial for Newcastle in the opening months of the campaign before his devastating season-ending groin injury against Sunderland in the FA Cup in January.
Joelinton has been “incredible” for Newcastle United
Hutton was blown away by the 27-year-old’s “huge” transformation during his time at St James’ Park and was adamant that his outstanding performances prove he must be rewarded with a new deal.
“I think he absolutely deserves a new contract,” he told Football Insider.
“From where he was when he first signed to where he is now – he’s a fan favourite now!
“He’s turned it right round, and this is incredible.
“It’s down to himself and his hard work and performances on the pitch.
“Eddie Howe has helped massively too as he first came in as a striker, but now he’s a midfielder who can run all day.
“He bullies people and through his performances on the pitch, he deserves a new contract.
“He’s a huge part of that team.”
