Newcastle United news: Pundit issues 'big' Bruno Guimaraes claim after 'crazy' report

Paul Robinson has urged Newcastle United to keep hold of Bruno Guimaraes this summer amid reported interest from Real Madrid.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one claimed Eddie Howe should build his side around the 24-year-old who is quickly becoming a fan favourite on Tyneside.

The Magpies signed Guimaraes in a £40million deal from Lyon in the January window.

The centre-midfielder has made an immediate impact at St. James’ Park and has helped the club climb to 11th in the Premier League table.

According to Spanish publication AS (21 April), Real Madrid have been impressed by Guimaraes and have identified him as a transfer target.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the news, Robinson said: “It is crazy.

“Six months ago we were talking about Newcastle being dead certs for relegation and now we are talking about one of their best players being wanted by Real Madrid. It just shows where they’ve come in such a short space of time.

“From the outside looking in, he seems very happy. He has an amazing relationship with the fans.

“I think he’s the best player the club have signed in a number of years. Bruno is the start of the revolution. If they can bring in other players around him they have a great chance of continuing to progress.

“They need to keep him though because he will be a big factor in other players joining. There is no point in selling him.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has told the authorities to ‘keep an eye’ on Newcastle United as transfer details emerge.
