Newcastle United: Odds tumble for Cesc Fabregas to be next manager after Eddie Howe latest
Newcastle United could decide to sack Eddie Howe this summer as bookmakers slash odds on Cesc Fabregas being appointed as his successor.
Howe led Newcastle to a disappointing 2025-26 campaign as they failed to win a cup competition and came 12th in the Premier League.
There have been doubts raised over whether he is still the right man to take the club into next season, with a clear improvement needed to return to European qualification.
Several candidates have been touted to succeed the 48-year-old at St James’ Park, with Fabregas’ stocks rising as he impresses in the early stages of his managerial career.
It remains to be seen if PIF seek a new manager for Newcastle soon, with the former Arsenal and Chelsea man believed to be more likely than ever to replace Howe with a leading UK bookmaker.

Fabregas’ glittering playing career that saw him represent both Arsenal and Chelsea came to an end at Italian club Como in 2023, as he instantly became the boss of both their under-19 and B sides.
| Games managed | Wins | Draws | Losses | PPG |

He was appointed as the interim manager of their first team in November 2023, and led Como to promotion to Serie A that season alongside Osian Roberts, who was their official boss due to Fabregas not having the right qualifications.
Como have since established themselves in the Italian top-flight with the Spaniard as their full-time boss, finishing tenth in 2024-25 for their best league finish since 1987 and qualifying for the Champions League in fourth in 2025-26.
With doubts remaining around Howe’s future at Newcastle, one of the top UK bookmakers has shortened Fabregas’ odds to 16/1 to succeed him on Tyneside this summer.
Who else is in the running to be Newcastle’s next boss?
Sources previously revealed to Football Insider that Andoni Iraola was keen to be Newcastle’s next manager, but he now looks set to take charge of Liverpool after Arne Slot.
The former Reds boss has entered the running to be the Magpies’ new boss with one of the UK’s leading bookies, as the joint-second-favourite alongside Iraola and Roberto Mancini at odds of 8/1.
Oliver Glasner is the current leading contender at 4/1 odds, while Marco Silva (10/1) and Xavi (12/1) are those sitting ahead of Fabregas as it stands.
