Newcastle to complete three major signings – ‘it will definitely happen’

Newcastle United are expected to ‘make at least three major signings this summer’ as the Magpies appear set to compete in next season’s Champions League.

Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have informed him about Newcastle’s summer recruitment plans.

Eddie Howe’s men have enjoyed a successful campaign, clinching the Carabao Cup with a victory over Premier League champions Liverpool at Wembley.

The Magpies are set to be tested by second-place Arsenal on Sunday, 18 May before hosting Everton on the final day of the top-flight campaign on 25 May.

Newcastle set to sign defender and forward this summer

The Magpies will be intent on acquiring fresh talent who can help them in their quest to enjoy a strong Champions League run next term.

O’Rourke told the Inside Track: “I would expect Newcastle to make at least three major signings this summer.

“They will definitely get a new centre-back in and get that wide right-sided forward which they’ve been chasing for the last couple of transfer windows.”

Newcastle should be able to retain Alexander Isak

While Newcastle eye fresh talent in the summer transfer window, the Magpies faithful will also be anxious to see Howe’s side retain their current star players.

Isak is prolific for Newcastle

Alexander Isak has established himself as one of the best strikers in the European game by scoring 27 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions.

But his dangerous final-third exploits at St James’ Park have not gone unnoticed, as he has attracted transfer interest from the likes of Arsenal, who are eager to bolster their frontline to mount a more serious Premier League title challenge next season.

However, Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Newcastle could command an asking price of £150million for Isak, which would be enough to put the Gunners off making an advance for his services.

As the Magpies look to continue their strong progress in the Premier League and battle for silverware next term, they have to retain the services of the Sweden international.
