Newcastle United set sights on signing striker as new details emerge – Sources

Newcastle United are set to target a young striker in the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Magpies want a young high-potential centre-forward to provide cover for Alexander Isak.

However, it is believed the talent level of any incoming forward would depend on the club’s summer budget.

Newcastle look set to sanction high-profile player sales in the off-season, with Football Insider revealing (17 March) that they will be forced to sell one of their biggest players amid major pressure to abide by Financial Fair Play obligations.

Regardless, they are still keen to bolster the squad in their efforts to improve on their underwhelming campaign.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider (1 March) that they plan to sign a centre-back, a central midfielder and a striker this summer.

The Magpies are thin for options up top, with Isak and Callum Wilson their only senior centre-forwards.

Wilson’s future at the club remains in doubt after he was put up for sale in the January transfer window.

Isak is also the subject of interest to Premier League giants Arsenal, with Football Insider revealing (19 March) that he is on their shortlist of striker targets.
