Newcastle United star Anthony Elanga mocks Fernandes’ Man United message

Bruno Fernandes received a cheeky message from former Man United ace Anthony Elanga during the Red Devils’ pre-season preparations.

Ruben Amorim’s side are currently in America for the Premier League Summer Series, facing West Ham, Bournemouth, Everton, and Fiorentina before heading back to Old Trafford.

With new technology being introduced for the friendly fixtures, Fernandes has already been warned over potential punishments due to his emotions on the pitch, which could now be caught by ref cams.

Elanga, on the other hand, left United for Nottingham Forest two summers ago, becoming an important player at the City Ground, before earning a £55million move to St James’ Park this summer [BBC Sport].

The duo clearly still have a relationship despite not playing together for the last two seasons, and the Man United captain was the subject of a funny put-down from the Sweden international.

Bruno Fernandes gets to work in pre-season tour

Taking to Instagram (25 July), Fernandes wrote: “Chicago,” alongside pin and muscle emojis, with likes from Marcus Rashford, Leny Yoro, and Bryan Mbeumo, as well as Declan Rice and Pedro Neto.

Newcastle’s Elanga commented: “You’re actually in the gym?” with an explosive mind emoji, clearly making fun of the midfielder, who shared images from United’s pre-season tour.

Ruben Amorim to ring wholesale changes at Man United

Football Insider verdict

Having finished 15th in the Premier League table last season and failed to win the Europa League final against Tottenham, Amorim is already under immense pressure at Man United.

Many supporters do feel, however, that the former Sporting CP figure deserves a summer transfer window under his belt before the real judgment begins, and rightly so.

Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen, and Marcus Rashford have all sealed exits, with the futures of Tyrell Malacia, Alejandro Garnacho, Mason Mount, Antony, and Rasmus Hojlund thrown into uncertainty.

Football Insider understands that Man United could make a move for Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, but the striker position is not the only concern heading into the new campaign.

Rumours continue to float around Andre Onana‘s situation, with the goalkeeper now set for an extended spell on the sidelines, but no movement has yet been made for a replacement signing.

With just 17 wins in his first 42 games in charge, he needs to quickly turn his fortunes around if he is to survive at the Theatre of Dreams, and he will be hoping Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha can help him with that.
