Medical Insider: Callum Wilson may now be out until October after Newcastle United update
Callum Wilson may not play for Newcastle United until after the international break in October.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.
Wilson started 2022-23 in top form with two goals in the Mapies’ opening three matches.

But the centre-forward has not played since he sustained a thigh injury in the 3-3 draw with Man City on 21 August.
As quoted by Chronicle Live on Tuesday (30 August), Eddie Howe explained: “We don’t believe his injury to be serious, and we’re hopeful he’ll only be out for a couple of weeks.”
But Dinnery suggests that the club-record signing of Alexander Isak and the upcoming international break may mean the manager chooses to play it safe with Wilson.
“This comes down in part to the availability of Isak, who will ease some of the pressure,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“In terms of where we are with the injury itself, I would say there is an outside chance he could return against West Ham. Failing that, we’re probably looking at the Bournemouth game.

“But if things are going really well and there are any slight doubts, you have to hold him back until after the international break and make sure he’s fully ready.
“But he will have one eye on getting involved in that World Cup squad. He will be focused on trying to get a game before that break to be considered for the squad.”
