Newcastle United told to beat rivals to Nicolas Jackson signing amid ‘big’ prediction – pundit

Kevin Campbell has backed Newcastle United to make a concrete move for Villarreal forward Nicolas Jackson in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker believes Eddie Howe’s side could be “big players” in the winter window if they remain in the top four.

Sources told this site on 27 September that Newcastle and Everton are in the race to sign Jackson.

According to the Daily Mail (31 October), Aston Villa are now also interested in the 21-year-old.

Jackson has entered the final 12 months of his contract with Villarreal.

He will be able to discuss a pre-contract with English clubs from January.

When asked by Football Insider if Jackson would be a welcomed addition at St. James’ Park, Campbell said: “Newcastle could be big players in the market place come January.

“Now they find themselves in the top four, this is the time to strengthen. That would be the right way to think.

“Adding a player of quality to your squad like Nicholas Jackson would be great. It would be a smart move. It is essential to add goals to your squad and he would do that.

“I’m sure he will be one of many names floating around. Newcastle have been taking their time with transfers. The key is to get it right.”
