Newcastle told to accept Matt Targett offer as training image drops – fans react

Newcastle United fans have told the club to accept a Matt Targett offer after he returned to training after a long injury absence.

After almost nine months away from St James’ Park, the left-back made his return to pre-season training as the club released an image of him in the gym.

He suffered a hamstring injury in November 2023 and, shortly after his return to training, picked up an injury to his achilles tendon, missing a total of 35 games.

Targett’s spell with the Magpies has been described as a “disaster”, having featured just 42 times since he signed from Aston Villa in January 2022.

Newcastle signed Targett for around £15million in 2022 and he earns a reported £100,000 per week wage, with fans stunned at the money involved given his lack of impact.

Now, they have demanded the club cash in while he still has two years left on his deal, both to raise the income and cut the wage bill with incoming deals in mind.

Others were still stunned by his wage packet.
